This is a very large Masonic decorated Gentleman's Creamware Beer mug, its unusually large but very fine in its construction and surprisingly light in the hand, its also very unusual being so early and openly Masonic as well as being Named. I was told by a good friend of my fathers that these very early Creamware Masonic items where made by Craft members who where also Masons themselves because for anyone to know the name of a mason they had to be also a member, sounds very seriously "Cloak & Dagger" but over 200 years ago when this was made it was a completely different world. We have seen examples before but not this fine or large and never one that is also named as well as dated. It has a couple minor cracks that show and minor nibbles as well as a couple firing imperfections but no major damage or losses & importantly its never been restored and the handle is solid which is incredible, the damage could be restored but then it would not be the item it is, we like original items and this speaks from over 216 years ago about a Mason who was also quite a wealthy man to be able to afford such an item.
Interesting note is that his name is on the item in a place that when being used and held it would be impossible to see it as it would be against the holder, really interesting item and anything over 200 years old and masonic is so hard to find now. Bought from a small estate with a group of other items by an old Antique dealer we know, it comes straight from an old estate, not listed we believe before. Size: approx 15.3 cm tall and 11 cm across the underneath of the base, its a big old mug! Please look at the images closely as they represent an important part of the description, thanks.
