Adams from Waltham Watch Company joined a partnership that spawned the Elgin National Watch Company, he went to Rockford, Illinois with the idea of opening a factory there. In its 39 years of operation, the company manufactured just under 1 million watches half of which were produced between 1902 and 1915.
